My friends from Finland! As I promissed this post is especially for you and most of all about you. Cause you were those who made our trip to finland so awesome. Before we had reached Helsinki we were so excited about it all that we decided to make a pre-party on a night cruise on a ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki. We did not buy ourselves a cabin so the more alcohol we drunk the more comfortable our night on the floor was. And it actually was pretty cosy. We bought tons of rum in a duty-free store and enjoyed staring at the sunset by the Swedish fiord. We fell asleep in front of the main entrance to the buffet next to a big flower that looked like a palm tree.
As we woke up in the morning we could feel the fresh breeze of Finland and kind of an awesome panorama of Helsinki. We came out of the ferry and the first nice thing we experienced was the sound of finnish language which is sort of a mixture of Mongolian and Hungarian with a swing of Russian (or maybe not. anyway to a couple of polish it sounds just fantastic). Luckily finland is bilingual so we could understand some of the road signs which were in finnish and swedish. We came down to the city center and took a lunch. We drunk some coffee with baileys and suddenly out of nowhere there was Joonas - the coolest ,the strongest and the funniest finn that was born since eino leino. He took us to his house in the poshest district of helsinki and greeted us with a shot glass of some fine Estonian vanilla vodka. Then his wife came and we could all happily spend a great afternoon together.
Joonas’s wife is just fantastic. If we had a chance to choose between the best Nokia phone for free or an afternoon with Kaisa’s company – we would not hesitate to go for Kaisa’s company. And apart from that she’s cool, she’s also pregnant so the family is growing bigger! Go Joonas family! Anyway their house is really comfy. The coolest gadget they have is a beautiful painting. Typical finn portrait of a family where the family man is pressing a fish with his shoe! Really impressive. We loved it. Sooo there was vodka that night and apart from that there was reindeer for dinner. Joonas decided to introduce us to some finn cuisine so he went to the forest and shot a reindeer (like all the finns do obviously)made an exceptional dinner.
The next day J and K went to job so until 3pm we were messing around Helsinki and sightseeing. We did not have a plan. we decided to walk wherever and see as much as possible despite pretty bad weather. We’ve discovered a lot of new romantic architecture. Buildings from the beg. of 20th century made of heavy dark stone. Something that we haven’t seen before. And obviously there were some animal monuments ( as in all of Scandinavia. Luckily Finland has the most little amount of all). Than we met up with Joonas and we went home to cook some food and relax. Once again Joonas has proven his cooking skills . That night we were getting ready to go out to see some of Helsinki nightlife. We started with 60% Koskenkorva Vodka – finland’s national heritage. After that we went to a pub which apparently looked like a bar in Warsaw in late 70’s (well it was supposed to look like that).
We drunk some absinth?!? and finn beers (wonderful combination haha). The next club we went to was just nextdoor and there was a special evening out there happening. There was a party called “most hated love songs”. The place was packed. People were staring at a popular band playing some cheesy love songs. Funny. In the meantime we had to have a taste of some famous finn flavoured vodkas. One of them called “fiisu” – massacre for your body. Tastes like mint and syrup against cough. But the worse was just coming up. Liqrish vodka. No polish people like it. But all the finnish people do so we had no choice haha. There was a funny guy who joined us for vodka. He called himself PERKELE and started buying us this super not tasty vodkas until i almost threw up and told him to stop.
We ended up at a famous kebab place eating some grilled meat – as you probably can imagine we were too drunk to remember what it had tasted like. The next day was a really easy day. J and K had a day off so we took a ferry to an island which in the past has been a stronghold against enemies of finland ( Kenia, Kambodja and Peru – they hate Finland and want to kick their asses. Especially Peru). From the island we were trying to spot Estonia which appears to be the “tallest country in the world”. We did not manage to do that due to bad weather conditions. Anyway the day at the stronghold was the last one in Finland cause the next morning we took off to Tallinn.
